Behind The Brand: Luckyday Press
At Retail Revealed, we were instantly drawn to Emma Scott-Child’s stand at Top Drawer AW25. Luckyday Press began with a simple idea. Emma wanted a calendar that could capture the whole year in one glance and it has grown into a brand that brings joy to families through beautifully designed, practical planners.
Alongside founding Luckyday Press, Emma is also the Creative Director at Junction Studio, where her design-led approach shines through in every detail of her products. As part of our Own Business Day spotlight, we’re delighted to share her story, her inspiration, and the thoughtful touches that make Luckyday Press so special.
Here, Emma shares with Retail Revealed the story behind Luckyday Press and what makes her products a little bit of daily joy for families.
What inspired you to start your business/ brand?
I was inspired to create the brand because I wanted a really big calendar with the whole year on it and I couldn't find one that I liked. This then grew into creating calendars with original content on them, something fun and out of the ordinary.
What are your brand’s values?
Everything I design for Luckyday Press must be useful and beautiful. Our planners are crafted for families who appreciate detail, with content that balances fun and functionality.
What is your biggest motivation?
These calendars bring so much joy to people, the little details and surprises add some fun to your day. Sometimes life can be tricky and it's hard to appreciate the details, but with little fun daily reminders, things feel less boring.
Where did the inspiration for your product(s) come from?
I kept forgetting things! Trying to keep track of a whole family worth of plans is tiring and using a digital calendar just didn't work for me. I wanted to be able to write things by hand, feel lovely paper stock and enjoy having a beautiful work of art on my wall at the same time. It also really helps kids understand time and planning to have an engaging wall calendar that they want to interact with.
What has been a highlight whilst creating and building your brand?
I love hearing the feedback from families, kids want to celebrate all sorts of info that they find on the calendar, there are some really good conversation starters on there, and things to talk about as a family.
What advice would you give to business owners, creators, designers and brand owners just starting out?
Don't expect to go big too soon. I started by making these for my friends, then slowly grew my customer base through my Instagram following. I was able to incorporate changes to the designs based on the feedback from my customers.
Will you be launching any new collections and if so, can you give us a sneak peek?
This year I have launched two new products which are perpetual, so they wont expire as normal calendars do. One is a birthday chart to add all your special days on, and you can see who you share a birthday with. The other is a really long height chart, that has all sorts of interesting things and people on it. It goes from the floor to the ceiling so you can include everyone in the family in the chart, even your toys and pets.
What is your personal favourite from your new collection?
The Big Family Calendar is my favourite. It shows three months per page and it is huge, so there's loads of room to write things on it and it comes with stickers to personalise your year.
How do you operate your brand sustainably?
I make a point of not creating anything that can't be recycled. All our products are paper based, so they won't add to landfill. Any leftover stock is recycled, or upcycled as wrapping paper. I don't want to create anything that will still be here when I'm not.
