A young graduate from the North West of England in the early 1980’s, Helen began to spend increasing amounts of time in a flat in London, and yes, she did marry him.
London exercised a fascination then which has never left her since, the couple began to explore it by way of urban walks using maps picked up from second hand bookshops. Maps already old, sometimes capturing the modern streetscape in clear focus, sometimes no more than a ghost from the past. Maps turned journeys into adventures. Maps evocative with the blue of the curving Thames, the green of the parks and the empire pink of the built up areas.
More than a quarter of a century later, now a textile designer/maker, children grown up, she has time to travel to places she has longed to go to. Trips to India mean that Delhi is one of her favourite cities. These beautiful map scarves a constant reminder of past and future travelling.
The scarves are made using silk, they measure 90 x 90 cm, and can come with a presentation box.
