About the Mountain Bluebird
The Mountain Bluebird (Sialia currucoides) is a small thrush found in open landscapes from mountainous meadows to grasslands. Native to western North America, it ranges from Alaska to Mexico. The male shows dazzling sky-blue plumage, while the female is grey with blue wings. It feeds on insects in flight and nests in tree cavities or nest boxes. In winter, Mountain Bluebirds gather in large flocks and migrate south. Once known as the Ultramarine Thrush, it is the state bird of both Idaho and Nevada.
