I was inspired to paint this scene as I love the walk across the Jubilee Bridge with its unique view towards Big Ben and watching red buses crossing Westminster bridge - what's more London than that!
London can be a hectic place but I wanted to create a painting with some serenity, a relaxing moment in a busy city. The colours of the golden Elizabeth tower (big ben) and Westminster Palace in the sunshine compliment the blues and greens of the sky and Thames and helped me create a soothing painting using pastel shades. I used some Mediterranean green for the water to help convey how glorious this part of London can look in the sunshine. I also love the way the London eye adds some extra perspective and a little visual drama to this view. Finally I added a few boats taking tourists up and down the river. The Thames feels so alive in the summer with people enjoying London's architecture and history from bustling ferries and clippers.
From the bridge you can see The London Eye on the south bank and the Palace of Westminster, Big Ben and the Royal Air Force Memorial on the north bank.
